How much does shoring cost?

"How much does a meter of shoring cost?" is by far the most frequently asked question we receive. The answer is nuanced, because the price depends on several factors: the chosen material, the height of the bank, the type of surface and the accessibility of the location.

To give you a realistic picture, we have included the following below indicative material costs per linear meter of bank established for our three main product lines. These prices are exclusive of VAT and concern the material (planks/partitions, posts and deck planks) — without earthwork and labor costs.

Please note that this target prices are. The exact price for your situation may differ based on quantity, specific dimensions and current availability. We always recommend one personal quote request for an accurate calculation.

Revetment along a bank — costs per meter

Material costs per meter compared

Indicative prices per linear meter of bank, excluding VAT and labor costs.

Material Price/meter (indicative) Lifespan Maintenance
Hardwood sheet pile wall 40 mm € 80 – € 130 25–40 years Minimal
Hardwood sheet pile wall 50 mm € 120 – € 200 30–50 years Minimal
Prolock Sigma € 60 – € 120 50+ years No
Prolock Light € 40 – € 80 40+ years No

The large price range per material is caused by the height of the bank: a revetment of 60 cm high is of course cheaper per meter than one of 150 cm. The type of wood also plays a role: azobé is more expensive than bilinga, but offers a longer lifespan. Also view our comparison hardwood vs. plastic for a more detailed consideration.

What else should you take into account?

In addition to the material costs for planks or bulkheads, there are additional costs to consider when budgeting for your shoring project.

Poles

Hardwood posts (azobé or angelim vermelho) cost an estimated €10 – €35 each, depending on the size and length. You need approximately 1 post per 100–150 cm bank length.

Deck planks

A hardwood or plastic deck plank for finishing costs approximately €8 - €25 per linear meter.

Fastening material

Stainless steel screws, bolts and brackets cost approximately €2 – €5 per linear meter of sheet piling.

Groundwork

If you outsource the excavation work, it will cost approximately €25 - €60 per linear meter, depending on the depth and accessibility.

Transportation

Delivery costs depend on distance and volume. We charge shipping costs from €5.25 for smaller orders. We make a tailor-made transport quotation for large parties.

Permit costs

A possible environmental permit or water permit usually costs €100 – €500, depending on your municipality.

What factors determine the price?

The final cost of your shoring project is influenced by a combination of factors. Below are the most important:

  • Bank length: more meters means more material, but for larger quantities the meter price can decrease due to volume discounts
  • Bank height/depth: a higher bank requires longer planks and longer posts
  • Soil type: in soft peat or clay soil, longer posts and sometimes additional anchoring are required
  • Accessibility: locations that are difficult to reach, transport and labor costs increase
  • Material Type: Plastic is often cheaper than hardwood at lower bank heights
  • Labor costs: approximately €30 - €80 per meter when engaging contractor; Installing it yourself saves this completely
Factors that determine the price of revetment

Example calculation: 10 meters of bank

Suppose you want to provide 10 meters of bank edge with revetment with a bank height of approximately 80 cm. Below is an indicative cost calculation for two material options:

Option A: Prolock Sigma (80 cm)

Prolock Sigma bulkheads (10 m)€ 700 – € 900
Posts (8 pieces, hardwood 8×8 cm)€ 120 – € 180
Deck plank (10 m)€ 100 – € 150
Fastening material€ 30 – € 50
Transportation€ 50 – € 150
Total material (excl. VAT)€ 1.000 – € 1.430

Option B: Hardwood sheet piling 40 mm (250 cm plank length)

Azobe sheet pile planks 40 mm (10 m)€ 900 – € 1.200
Posts (8 pieces, hardwood 8×8 cm)€ 140 – € 200
Hardwood deck plank (10 m)€ 120 – € 180
Stainless steel mounting material€ 35 – € 55
Transportation€ 50 – € 150
Total material (excl. VAT)€ 1.245 – € 1.785

This example shows that for an average project of 10 meters the total material costs between €1,000 and €1,800 depending on your choice of material. If you have the site work carried out by a contractor, approximately €300 - €800 will be added. Read more about the placement process in our Installing sheet piling instructions.
