Prolock Sigma plastic sheeting
Maintenance-free sheeting made from recycled plastic — durable for more than 50 years, without painting, staining or replacing.
Prolock Sigma
What is Prolock Sigma?
Prolock Sigma is an advanced plastic revetment system for bank protection and earth retaining. The bulkheads are made of recycled HDPE — robust, rot-free and resistant to water, soil acids and micro-organisms.
The patented click-lock connection system clicks each panel watertight into the previous one, without extra fasteners. Suitable for professionals and DIYers. In stock at Houthandel Jan Sok in Meppel.
Prolock Sigma is the heaviest variant in the Prolock range, with an effective profile wall thickness of approximately 30 mm. This makes the system suitable for deeper waterways and heavier ground loads where lighter plastic revetments fall short.
Advantages
Why choose Prolock Sigma?
A future-proof choice for almost any bank protection situation — from garden pond to professional waterway.
50+ year lifespan
No rot, corrosion or material degradation — even in permanently wet conditions. HDPE plastic naturally resists the chemical and biological processes that attack wood. After 50 years the material remains structurally intact and fully recyclable.
100% maintenance-free
Never paint, stain or treat. Install once, enjoy years of peace of mind. This delivers significant long-term savings: where hardwood revetment may optionally be oiled annually, Prolock Sigma requires literally zero maintenance.
UV resistant
Retains colour and strength under prolonged sun exposure. The HDPE material contains UV stabilisers that prevent discolouration and brittleness — even after decades of outdoor use.
Click-lock mounting
Quick installation without specialist tools or extra fixings. The panels click together via a patented profile. An experienced DIYer can complete 10 to 15 metres of bank per day.
Recycled HDPE
100% recycled plastic — circular and environmentally conscious without compromising on quality. Each panel gives plastic waste a second life as a high-quality building material. At end of life the material is recyclable again.
All soil types
Resistant to soil acids, changing water levels, salt, brackish and fresh water in almost any soil. Where hardwood may weather faster in certain soils, Prolock Sigma performs identically in all conditions.

Applications
Where is Prolock Sigma used?
Versatile in use throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany — from private gardens to professional waterworks.
Garden ponds & ornamental ponds
Sleek, dark appearance for modern gardens. The anthracite colour suits contemporary garden designs. Prolock Sigma is safe for fish and aquatic plants — no chemicals leach from the material.
Ditches & waterways
Chosen by water boards and municipalities for low long-term maintenance costs. Total costs over 50 years are significantly lower than hardwood because no replacement or treatment is needed.
Agricultural canals
Impact-resistant material that withstands livestock and heavy ground pressure along plots. Not susceptible to damage from farm machinery along the bank.
Private banks
Ease of maintenance and long lifespan — increasingly popular with homeowners. The simple click-lock installation makes it a feasible DIY project.
Parks & green projects
Minimal maintenance costs for municipalities over decades. Once installed, budgets can go to green maintenance instead of revetment replacement.
Industrial sites
Impact resistance and chemical resistance make Prolock Sigma suitable for bank finishing at locations where hardwood revetment would weather faster due to industrial influences.
Installation
Easy to install yourself
Thanks to the click-lock system you can install Prolock Sigma without specialist tools. An experienced DIYer with one helper can complete approximately 10 to 15 metres per day. The six basic steps:
-
Digging a trench
Dig along the bank line to the desired depth. Allow at least 30 cm burial depth below water level for stability. Keep the trench approximately 60 cm wide for sufficient working space.
-
Install support posts
Drive a round spruce post (Ø 100 mm) or hardwood post every 100–150 cm. The post must extend at least 1 metre deeper than the bottom of the panel. Use a post driver or manual pile driver.
-
Place first shot
Press the first panel into the ground and secure it to the first post. Check that the panel is level — this is the reference for the entire revetment.
-
Scots click
Click each subsequent panel into the previous one via the click-lock profile. The profile clicks audibly into place. No glue, screws or extra fasteners needed.
-
Full length
Repeat until the entire bank is covered. At corners use the Prolock Sigma corner connector (3 metres, €55.00) for a seamless connection.
-
Finish
Backfill with soil and compact lightly. Finish the top with a Prolock cover board (6 metres, €175.00) for a neat finish that also protects the ends. Use end caps (€3.80 each) where no cover board is used.
Cost example
Cost example
To give a realistic picture of total project costs, below is a calculation example for a common situation.
Situation: 10 metres of bank, bank height 80 cm, garden pond in clay soil.
| Component | Calculation | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Prolock Sigma panels 50×120 cm | ~25 panels (working width ±20 cm × 10 m) | 25 × € 41,40 = € 1.035,00 |
| Support posts Ø100 mm, 2.50 m | 8 pcs (every 125 cm) | 8 × € 12,25 = € 98,00 |
| Cover board 6 metres | 2 pcs | 2 × € 175,00 = € 350,00 |
| Cover board connector | 1 pc | € 11,00 |
| End caps | 2 pcs (ends) | 2 × € 3,80 = € 7,60 |
| Total materials | €1,501.60 incl. VAT | |
| Per linear metre | €150.16 incl. VAT |

Vergelijking
Prolock Sigma vs. other plastic systems
Prolock Sigma distinguishes itself from other plastic revetment systems on several important points:
| Property | Prolock Sigma | Standard PE panels | Plastic sheet pile profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material | Recycled HDPE | New or partly recycled PE | PVC or composite |
| Wall thickness | ~30 mm | 15–20 mm | 10–25 mm |
| Connection | Click-lock (patented) | Tongue-and-groove or loose | Sliding profile |
| Maximum height | 500 cm | Usually max. 200 cm | 200–300 cm |
| UV resistance | Yes (stabilisers) | Varies | Varies |
| 100% recycled | Ja | Not always | No |
The click-lock system is the distinguishing feature: where other plastic systems require manual fixing or tongue-and-groove, Prolock Sigma clicks together watertight without extra material. Compare with hardwood: Hardwood vs. plastic revetment.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Prolock Sigma
Yes. HDPE plastic is fully resistant to salt, brackish and fresh water. The material does not corrode and is not affected by salt concentrations. This is an advantage over hardwood, which may have a shorter lifespan in salt water.
Yes. The click-lock system is designed for DIYers. You need no specialist tools — a spade, spirit level and post driver suffice. We do recommend working with at least two people, especially for panels taller than 150 cm.
This depends on the working width of the profile, approximately 200 mm after click-lock overlap. Allow approximately 5 panels per linear metre of bank. For a quote we calculate the exact number based on your situation.
Minimally. The panels contain UV stabilisers that prevent discolouration. In the first months a slight colour shift may occur during curing, after which the colour remains stable.
This depends on your municipality and water board. For revetment along ditches and waterways a water permit is often required. For small garden ponds this is usually not the case. Read more on our permits page.
Prolock Sigma is the heaviest version with a wall thickness of approximately 30 mm — suitable for deeper waterways and heavier ground loads. We supply only the Sigma variant for its superior strength and durability.
Yes. Although we recommend standard spruce support posts (Ø 100 mm), you can also use hardwood Okan or Azobé posts for extra durability. View our post range in the webshop.
The click-lock profile creates a rigid connection between panels. Under normal water conditions there is no rattling or noise. For extremely high wave action in open water we recommend a hardwood solution.
